XK150 Salt Attack Restoration
This 2009 XK 4.2 Cabriolet came in with surprisingly low mileage but had taken a proper battering from road salt over the years. With just 50,000 miles covered, the car should have been in excellent condition, but salt attack had done serious damage to the subframes and underside. This was a fix it or lose it situation.
The car was stripped down to reveal the full extent of the corrosion. Both the front and rear subframes had been compromised, with serious rust penetration that couldn't be ignored. This wasn't a quick fix job – the entire underside needed a proper rebuild to save the car.
The front subframe was removed, assessed, and completely rebuilt. Corroded sections were cut out and replaced, with all mounting points restored to proper strength. The rear subframe received the same treatment, with extensive metalwork required to bring everything back to structural integrity. All suspension mounting points were checked and reinforced where needed.
Once the structural work was complete, the entire underside was treated for corrosion, sealed, and protected to prevent future issues. The suspension was rebuilt throughout with fresh bushings, and all components were refinished. The fuel and brake lines were replaced, and the exhaust system was refitted with new hangers and mounts.
After reassembly, this XK now sits on solid foundations again. What was a low-mileage car being eaten away by salt is now properly sorted underneath, rescued from what would have been terminal corrosion and given a proper second chance.
